For you welders out there...

Hi folks...

I am wondering what the consensus might be regarding the best possible welder under $200 for basic 8N/small acreage projects?

I have zero welding experience (would a community college class be a good idea?) and would just like to have something very basic, as any of you would suggest.

At this price point, my lively wife will easily consider it worth a try. Any more than this and I will have to do some convincing using actual proven examples of my capability. HA!

I watch these videos on YouTube and he makes it seem so simple:

I tried it using a Vaper 70 AMP AC box (http://www.amazon.com/Vaper-70-Amplifier-Arc-Welder-41180/dp/B000UOET4O), which I bought for $50 and some 6011 rod, but just succeeding in destroying the stupid welder.

Your advice/suggestions would be very welcome, and I hope this doesn't turn out to be a topic of contention by any.
