Not too cautious, just trying to save yourself a re-do later. Yes, if you can introduce air to the test port (at referenced plug)& arms lift, then you should be able to do same with air at top cover feed hole , with back pressure valve connect point blocked. In the drawing you can see that the bypass/unloader has moved to block the flow out the back pressure valve. Had you not blocked the backpressure flow with thumb or whatever, there would have never been enough pressure to move the bypass/unloader to this blocking position. The control valve is in lift position, therefore blocking the cylinder lower/dump path, so the only place for pump pressure/flow to go is through the check valve & into the lift cylinder.
