Don't chide me Bruce.
I know you don't like EI.
As per Pertronix Tech Support the air gap between the magnet and module can be anywhere from .005" to .060".
In other words the bushings can be so worn out that the engine would likely not have run on points and EI would fix that.
So yes, you are correct.
But my statement; "EI doesn't care if your bushings are worn or if your cam lobes are worn." is probably more correct.
Also, according to Pertronix, the cam lobes can also be so badly worn that it would not have even opened the points any more yet the EI would still work.
Electronic Ignition is a viable alternative to points and in some respects it is a superior one.
I would like to apologize to you here (and to all the good folks who read us)for my half of all the bickering we have done on this issue.
I will try to be more patient and kinder in the future.
But there IS a place for EI on these old tractors (a worn out distributer being just one of them) and I will continue to tout it's benifits.
