Bruce,

Let me give you some background on the tractor. I know very little about its past besides it was my great uncles. The wiring is original with a few splices in it, so it is pretty much shot. I have been putting a charger on the battery assuming its wasn't charging, but after using it for a little while the other day the charger said it didn't need a charge. That got me thinking that it does charge and what if its charging too much? I put my DMM on it but it was bouncing all over, 12 then 18 then somewhere else, this was from the battery terminals.

The ammeter doesn't move ever, so I figured that it is bad or the charging circuit doesn't work. I have a new wiring harness, ammeter and voltage regulator for it, but I haven't had the time to install it.

Can the generator charge more than the 8 volts or so that's needed?

Thank you,

Tim
