You are correct about the valve.

Some time ago, a poster (YT, FB or both) posted about an adapter that he had machined from aluminum that bolted to the tank using the same two bolts and O ring as the original valve. The adapter was machined for an elbow allowing one to connect one's own fuel line having a shutoff valve downstream. For a while he sold a few on, IIRC, eBay. It looked to be well made. I do not know if he still makes them.

Before I sold out and relocated, I had become somewhat of an expert at changing vintage Ford tractor tank valves without removing either tank or rocker arm cover and could change one in less than 30 minutes, exclusive of R & R-ing the fuel.
