The air cleaner discussion continues. Let's start from the beginning with the first '39 9N's. Pictured here is HCooke's *9N5262* air cleaner which is identical to my *9N653I*. It is also pictured in the original Ferguson-Sherman Ford Tractor Instruction Book, Page 8, reference in MANUALS. The March 15, 1940 Parts Book states two manufacturers' models were used, US and DONALDSON. Part #9N-9600-C1, ass'y, and #9N-9609-C1, body, (DONALDSON) and #9N-9600-C2 ass'y, and #9N-9609-C2 body, (US) with #9N-9658-C1 ( Donaldson ) Oil Cup Ass'y; and 9N-9658-C2 ( US ) Oil Cup Ass'y; and with p/n's 9N-18215-A and 9N-18215-C air cleaner pipes though not listed which is used with which. The 1940 Parts Book only shows the rounded cup.

The May 15, 1941 Parts Book lists virtually all the same parts and also only shows the rounded cup. The January 2, 1942 Parts Book lists only the #9N-9600-C2 Assembly and only shows the rounded cup, however both bodies #9N-9609-C1 ( DONALDSON )and #9N-9601-C2 ( US ) are listed, and both cups, #9N-9658-C1 ( DONALDSON ) & #9N-9658-C2 ( US ) but only one pipe, #9N-18215-C are listed. The 1946 2N Parts book and the discussion on the early 8N air cleaners is covered in the original posting. Missing are the '43, '44, and '45 Parts Books which Don or Jonas may have. What would be ideal is to find a parts book prior to the March 15, 1940 edition, perhaps one published in 1939. So can we say either cup/cleaner is correct as it is apparent both styles were used, at least after March, 1940?
