Reading about Edsel Ford and Eugene Gregorie, and their design group for the Ford cars of the 30's and 40's. There is a photo of the full size clay design model Gregorie made of the 1939 9N tractor. He said the tractor design could make a story in itself, and the dispute regarding what it would be called(Ford Tractor with Ferguson System or Ferguson Tractor) went on between Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson for much of the design period. Gregorie said that to hedge their bets his group created two sets of name plates for the hood, one with Ford the other with Ferguson and he had one of the boys ready with both plates and when anyone saw Ford or Ferguson coming down the hall he would run and put the proper name plate on the model. He called it a real circus.

The photo of the clay model is real interesting-the original engine pattern has a large round flange at the bell housing/transmission joint just like the differential/transmission flange. It also has the small generator.
