Just because I’ve never experienced a worn out distributor cam doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
Specs for the frontmount are:
Across flats = .789/.791
Over lobes = .869/.871 dia.
It's going to run much better w/ a .015 gap & the timing set correctly.
Have you set the timing according to the I&T FO4 manual?
You can retard or advance the timing a bit to account for some of the closer gap.
