Thread pitch on draft plunger

I was trying to fill an order for parts tonight. Customer wanted a draft yoke and a plunger. I found one of each in my stash, but discovered that the yoke has 5/8"-18 NF threads but the plunger had a thread pitch even finer than that. I can't find my thread gauge so I don't know exactly what it is. Here are some comparison photos.

The NF pitch plunger is broken and is on the bottom of the two photos. You'll also notice that the threaded portion of the top plunger is longer than the bottom one.

I checked my 1950 parts book and my 1941 parts book and neither one mentions the thread pitch on these parts. Does anyone know for sure when the change was made? I have the ultra-fine thread plunger for sale, but I'd like to correctly identify its application.

Thanks.
