The 134 type oil (UTF) is an altogether different animal and it protects yellow metal just fine. Lots of people worry (needlessly IMO) about the yellow metal corrosiveness of GL5 oils. Most modern GL5 formulations are yellow metal safe - particularly in an N-series which has almost no yellow metal in it. On the other hand GL1 has no EP additives and is an inferior gear lube. GL5 and UTF both contain significant levels of EP additives and will provide better gear wear protection than GL1. Any of them will be fine in the average N-series tractor.
