The worst I remember was in the mid 70’s when a wall of snow hit Buffalo, NY and they were forecasting it to bury us here in Rochester, NY. Businesses and schools closed, grocery stores had lines out the door for people trying to stock up. There were traffic jams from everybody getting out at the same time. The way home was sunny. After we got home, we waited for a few hours and nothing. It seems that the storm took an unexpected turn to the north about halfway here and dissipated over the lake. Businesses here estimated that they lost a lot of money from productivity and sales. They decided that after that no more emergency closings before predicted weather event.
