While in law school, I worked as an Assistant Sgt at Arms for the California Assembly. One of our duties was to pick up Assembly members at the airport. On one occasion I picked up a member who said he would drive back to the Capitol. At speeds over 100 mph in a Plymouth K car, I was terrified. We were stopped by the Highway Patrol. The member got out and went back to the officer's car. He was back in a very few minutes bragging to me he had avoided the ticket by telling the office who he was and advising the officer he had recently voted for an increase in the Highway Patrol's uniform allowance. It is good to be da king.
