I have used battery tenders from Harbor Freight for years and have had no problems, you can get them for as little $5.00 on sale sometimes. I currently have tenders on both riding lawn mowers and my hunting Subaru. Heck, if one goes bad you can get another for almost nothing. The only problem I have ever experienced is the clips can get corroded up sometime from being so lose the terminals.
