Battery minder/maintainer/

What is the best bang for the buck 12V battery charge maintainer? Harbor Freight has one on sale for $7.99 .... cheap enough but is it any good? I have battery chargers but I tend to forget them and end up cooking the battery.

cooking = stinking and swollen battery case
