Texting, cell phone to cell phone is common. Using watsap is also common.
Regular texting is like using a phone line. If you send pics, it will use data. Cheap folks like me, have limited data. Watsap uses and needs a wifi connection. Most folks have this, along with many stores like Starbucks and Mc Donalds. Sending pics is more efficient with watsap. Most phone have email access, using either data or wifi.
You use the system that works best for you and your plan. Some folks have unlimited data. That costs $$$, a bit like making large payments on a new truck.
