Here is my research on the available drawings on 9N front wheel hubs and hub bolts:

Hub assy 9N-1104-A1 included parts 9N-1106-A1 hub, 78-1107 bolt, cup B-1217(outer) and cup B-1202 (inner). All hubs used same cups, so I will not repeat. The –A1 hub was made of malleable cast iron or optional cast steel and had three straight radial ribs ˝ inch high from depth of valley of dish. It is the only hub with ribs inside between the bearings. Earliest date on print is 4/13/39. 1 inch diameter raised bosses were under bolt heads.

Hub assy 9N-1104-A2 included parts 9N-1106-A2 hub and 9N-1107-A bolt. The –A2 hub was a steel forging and had no reinforcing ribs except for a small drive lug (for machining) between hub and dish. (You wouldn’t need the ribs with a steel forging). Earliest date on hub print is 7/7/39, but assy was not released until 11/42.

Hub assy 9N-1104-A3 included parts 9N-1106-A3 hub and 78-1107 bolt. The –A3 hub was made of cast iron and had five fairly deep s-shaped ribs. Because of the s shape, these ribs would probably not have been so good for machining drive lugs, so there were two rectangular lugs on the wheel side for this purpose. Earliest date is release date of 2/44.

Hub assy 9N-1104-A4 included parts 9N-1106-A4 hub and 9N-1107-B bolt. The –A4 hub was made of low carbon steel plate and has a Kelsey-Hayes number in the border. Drawing was completed in 6/44 and released 10/44. The holes for the hub bolts are bigger (.592/.602) than any of the others and would, therefore require another hub bolt.

Hub 9N-1106-A5 does not seem to have had an assembly drawing, as the 78-1107 hub bolts are called out on the machined part drawing, whereas, on the others, they are called out on the assembly drawing and only referenced on the machined part drawing. The part was made of malleable iron and had five straight radial ribs with large radius tops to them. There were 1 1/8 diameter raised bosses under the bolt heads.

All versions specified swaging or staking the hub bolts into place in the hub flange. All versions except –A4 reamed .562\.563 holes to press in the hub bolts.

Now for the hub bolts: 78-1107 came from 1937 passenger cars and had 1.46 overall length (OAL). The head was to be stamped with F for Ford, K for Kelsey, etc., depending who made it and the neck was smooth. Released 2/38.

9N-1107-A was 1.29 OAL and head stamping was not required. The neck was smooth and was released 7/7/39.

9N-1107-B was 1.27 OAL and head stamping was not required. The neck was ribbed or fluted with 39 flutes which had a diameter of .6125/.6225 inch. Head stamping was not required. Kelsey-Hayes number 27991 is on drawing. Released in 10/44 but not drawn until 3/46.

2NAN-1107-A1 was 1.72 OAL and head stamping was required. The neck was smooth, and was released 11/42. Note on print says Used With 9N-1106-A1, A3 Designs Only.

2NAN-1107-A2 was 1.55 OAL and head stamping was required. The neck was smooth and was released 11/42. Note on print says Used With 9N-1106-A2 Design Only.

All hub bolts were zinc plated.

There is one more hub assembly I cannot read completely yet, but it is 2N-1104, released 4/46. Will post its contents as a followup when I am sure of the numbers.
I have not found a drawing of a hub with three s-shaped ribs as in Stumpy’s pictures of 2/28/06. There will always be some unknowns.
