They were unauthorized (by Ford) conversions of the 9N, 2N and 8N (but mostly 8N) tractors to take the Ford 6 cylinder flathead motor. A conversion kit was marketed by the Funk Aircraft Company and the kit contained everything that you needed to do the conversion excapt the motor, which you were instructed to order brand new from Ford. They were clearly well designed and thought out because many, many Funks are still running today. It is estimated that about 5000 conversion kits were sold. A few conversions were also made to the later Ford overhead valve engine and to the Ford flathead V-8. Funk sold kits for both.
The Funks are becoming collector's items. A Funk in rough shape will sell for $1500. A restored Funk will bring perhaps $5000. The OHV six and V-8 conversion prices are higher. Finding parts is definitely a bit harder than for a standard Ford 8N because you have tractor parts, truck/car parts (the motor) and some unique Funk parts involved.
If you search the archives under "Funk" you will find lots of info. I own two of them and there are other Funk owners on this board.
