I tried the masks once. The masks I got were not cut to match the raised letters very well. Then the mask left a slightly raised edge on the letters when I peeled them off. Maybe I waited a few minutes too long??? I don't know, but I've done them by hand ever since.
Most paint is a little thick right out of the can. It may not settle out and hide brush strokes unless you use a little paint thinner. Too thin though, and it'll just run all over the place, or need a second coat to cover, yuck! I bought some artist's brushes and tried a couple sizes until I found one that worked best for me. I'm no artist, but using the correct "tool" for the job usually helps.
