Another solution is to look for balls that have a bolt that comes up from the bottom. This way just replace the bolt with the proper length needed. I use a couple of flat washes too. I find this type of ball at antique shops and yard sales.
I can only use the ball in the V of the drawbar set up on certain tailers. It depends on how the trailer hitch was manufactured. Someitmes if I put the ball in the hole of the V the trailer hitch will hit the drawbar infront of it. It is usually just short light pulls so I use one of the other holes in the drawbar.
