Have I trashed my engine?

Hi,guys,
I was replacing the oil pan gasket on my (side mount distributer) 8N. I read in the FO-4 manual that the upper rear main seal could be "pushed" out and the new one pushed in. My ignorant attempt at doing this resulted in breaking the side flange of the seal channel out. It appears to be a pressed in aluminum(?) block of some sort, as seen in the first pic.

The other two pics show the break at different angles. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thoughts? Have I just trashed my engine?
