First there should be alignment marks (chisel marks) on the outside of the spindles and then the spindle arm split or like-chisel marks on the arm should align with that mark on the spindle. Look for these marks at the top of the spindle between the tire and the spindle. Aligning those marks is what they did at the factory. The front wheels should be fairly straight ahead when they line up. However, if you take a tape measure and measure across both the front and back of the tires at the same location on the tires you will see that they are either set wider at the rear or possibly at the front. I set mine so that they are about 1/4" closer together at the front than the back. Toe-in. If it was toe-out, it would be wider at the back. If everything is fairly tight and in good condition on the steering, a 1/4" toe-in should be good. If you have much more than that, it may make the tires scrub off more and will also cause the steering wheel to snap back some when you come out of a turn. You don't want the steering wheel snapping back because it can injure your hand/wrist. If you have toe-out, it will cause the shaking of the front wheels as you travel at speed. That is because the wheels are scrubbing somewhat and trying to come back to straight ahead ,which they can't.

When I set toe-in, I do it on the garage floor and I move the tractor forward and back a few feet a couple times and then after rolling it ahead the last time, I do the measurements.
