By virtue of my profession I am clearly biased but IMO no shop is complete without a computer. Can't easily fix a modern vehicle without a computer in the shop or even better in the vehicle. A laptop with an OBD interface and software lets you drive the vehicle and observe engine data as the PCM runs the various readiness monitors. Beats the heck out of guessing and throwing parts at problems. Not nearly as good as a professional scan tool with vehicle specific diagnostic software and data but something just about everyone has access to at an affordable price!!!
