Hi Kirk, I think in the pics you are talking about with the tires on backwards on manuals & such is the reason they were is that that team of guys was just to sorry to break them down the correct way & make the tread turn the correct way, maybe it was because there hired photographer was just there for a day & they made several pics in a day using the same tractor but many different implements for the cover pics for the different operators manuals?? This is what me & dad have always thought, seems they would have supplied enough tractors for the different implements (1 spread out for all the cultivators with tires NOT running backwards) & (1 set at standard tread width for plows & the other items??) Luckily when I was a kid & when dad was even a boy they had the Dearborn tractor jack my grandpa bought new in '49 to use, but even when I was little & we would top dress & cultivate our corn we took the time to break the dish from the hat-rim & flip it to get the spacing all the way out & the tread pattern of the rear tire running the correct way. I get that some folks didn't have but the 1 jack to use & do 1 side at a time & just flipping the tire backwards back in the day, but still you would not get the maximum tread width for the N's you could achieve till you unbolted the dish from the rim anyway? maybe there planters & cultivators were set up on the spacings by just there tire flip as you can set up planter & cult. on whatever row spacing you'd like anyhow?? Hope I didn't confuse this subject to bad?
