To a certain degree it depends on how worn the main bearings are. If the engine has a lot of hours on it and the bearings are worn then lighter weight oils will not be able to maintain the oil pressure because they will easily squirt out around the crank and connecting rods.
I run 10W40 in my (very worn) 8N because it seems to help keep up the oil pressure.
