Are you sure you didn't get Left and Right switched? A very common problem (and just about the only problem) with these steering boxes is failure of the upper thrust bearing due to no lubrication. The oil leaks out, the bearing runs dry and eventually fails. The first sign of this happening is that the steering doesn't want to turn left and the steering wheel actually rises up as the wormshaft tries to screw itself up out of the box.
