The 9n,2n and 8n all had about 20/21 hp. that is not much when you consider what some people have asked of these machines. The Ford governor can be sluggish to respond if ANY of the parts are worn. One thing that is overlooked is the fork(p/n #18235),worn so that the running face is blunted from wear and the back side of the top hat (p/n#18194).The two links on either side of the governor spring. The fit of the arm (p/n #18190) on the body of the governor is also critical. Bearing (p/n 18182) and the fit of arm (pn #18189) as well as replacement of seal (p/n #18183) is also important Any "lost motion" in these areas will cause the engine to lack in response. Dirt getting by this seal will lead to wear internally. In much earlier years I rebuilt or placed many of these governors when I moonlight at an engine rebuild in the area.
