Thanks for the advice. It's clear I have a lot to learn about how tractors work. I've rebuilt three engines and a couple standard transmissions, so I'm literate in things mechanical. But I'm not familiar with how a governor works as well as other tractor systems. I'm sure they're similar. Just downloaded the Dennis Carpenter catalog and going through that is an education in itself. Exploded views of most everything. Thanks for the tip.

I feel the same way about keeping things the way the manufacturer built them. They know the engineering and have years of experience that led to that product. No way can I, with my limited knowledge, make it better. Seen sob stories that bear that out too.

I'm collecting all the responses into a Microsoft Word document so I have them all in one place. It's really helpful having them like that.
