Ford 8n starter

Hello folks, I did a boo-boo and engaged my starter while it was still turning on my 1952 Ford eight in tractor. By doing that it broke the gears on the Bendix for the starter, the teeth from that is down in the bell housing, I ended up, giving some out with a magnet however, half of it is still down in there in pieces, so my question is should I or do I have to separate the transmission from the motor and get the pieces out or do you think I can still run it having space between the fly will and the bell housing.
