12v charging

I'm working on a 51' with a 12v conversion that was done before I got the tractor. To get it charging I always had to rev it to almost full throttle, now that doesn't work. I took the alternator in to get tested and it passed.

It is currently a 1 wire, and the other two terminals had silicone on them, it is now removed.

I wired the #2 terminal to the output terminal. Then I wired #1 terminal and left the other end open. I started the tractor and then touched the #1 to the output stud very quickly, it started to charge.

I've read about installing a light which would excite the alternator. Does anyone have the bulb and socket part # that I need? I've read about a 2 or 3 wire socket and that is where I get stuck.

Thank you,

Tim
