Timing on a front mount distributor can be set with a timing light, BUT, it takes a lot of effort to exactly locate TDC-compression stroke on #1 and mark the crank pulley. If I didn't want to spend all the time and effort, I would set it up as far advanced as I could. I believe that will be best.
