How about two problems?
Carb float being one and electrical connector on the other?
It dies going down the hill.
How does it restart? Bottom of the hill? Just crank it until it catches?
Loose wire on the ign switch? Coil?
I have a tractor that does the same occasional leak routine as yours.
I put an inline fuel shut off solenoid in the fuel line.
Redrock MFG sells those.
