Thanks for the information. My 2N still has the original OEM generator (had to be rewound at one point but still works. I actually used the tensioning device on it in order to get the tractor out of the field and back to my garage...I had to loosen it up enough so it would slide almost smoke-free over the fan while I drove her back. But I fully expect the belt is probably shot from the barbecuing it got yesterday.

Yeah sorry I'm not much of a mechanic so I couldn't figure out why else the fan had gotten so tough to spin all of a sudden. Funny you mention mufflers, I just had a whole muffler bearing replacement on my car.

Anyways thanks to both of you, I think I know what's failed on her now.
