As Terry said also I had to cut the stack on the oil fill or I'd be taking the alternator off every time you want to add oil. You could add the later flywheel and drill a hole in the side of the block for timing. It's a lot of work for little gain IMO. Here's my '48 with side mount conversion. I just sold every thing needed to make one the other day so I guess there still is some interest in switching.
