LIGHTS! Well that explains much of what is going on. The lights were never installed on any N at the Ford factory and were only sold at dealerships as options. The dealer could install them but many farmers just bought the set and did their own hookups. A lot of guys connect the lights wrong and end up in situations just like yours. Bad wiring. Most of the time that a tractor won’t start is because the wiring is wrong. The generator motoring test is only found in the newer f04 manual. There is an old version in the Manuals forum here but it doesn’t have the motoring test. You can also kill more birds with one stone by taking all you stuff to a starter shop in town to get tested. Be sure the guy knows old Ford six volt electrical stuff. He can test the battery, generator, amp gauge, and voltage regulator to get tested as well. Before you go ripping parts off, get the Wiring Pictograms here in the how to’s under electrical and use as a template for your wiring diagram. Shortcuts like your switch will most likely cause shorts. Something is shorting out the system and most likely not your voltage regulator, generator, or amp gauge. It's got to be in your wiring. You also need to get manuals for your tractor.
