Your F04 manual has a section on how to motor test the generator. Polarizing the generator is not your problem if it was running and now won't. Don't be guessing and before you start taking parts off, do some basic troubleshooting. Define 'just stopped' Does the tractor run? Is the amp gauge working if it does run? Tractor won't start? The first thing to do is test the battery. Even though you say you have a six volt battery that doesn't mean the electrical wiring is correct. Just hooking up a battery charger won't do any good if the battery won't hold a charge under load. You can take your battery to a reliable starer shop in town who knows old Ford systems and have him test it. Get your manuals and picture grams by jmor to guide the correct wiring. If battery is bad get a new one and see if it fixes the problem after you are certain the rest of the wiring is correct.
