I have skidded out a lot of timber using the old fords and IH tractors using the three point hitch. I have tried a few methods and the best one that works for me is a 5' box blade with a chain hooked to the frame. You can back up to the log hook up the chain raise up the 3pt a few inches and the log end will sit again the blade. This method has a low impact on logging trails and by keeping it up a few inches you don't catch the log end on rocks/roots. When you get the log to the landing just unhook and you can use the box blade to push you logs into place. When using a 9n/2n you will want to employ some kind of position control because you only want the 3pt a few inches high not all the way up.

Here are a couple other methods I have also used. They also worked but not as well IMO.
