Just look at the bar when the chain is off to see if the sides of the groove are even. Sometimes one side wears quicker and it gets uneven and your chain will lean 5o one side. That is when it is time for a new bar. If you keep the chain well oiled the bar will last a good long time. If you run chain dry it will wear out the bar in a very short time.
