I have always lived about 35 miles SW of Detroit in 4 different locations. My wife grew up in Detroit in the 40's and early 50's before moving to Caseville, on Saginaw Bay, in the upper portion of the "thumb" of Michigan.
We met in 1965 when she was working for her uncle near here. Her brother was a Detroit cop. Obviously, he was involved in the 1967 riots.
There is, I think, a significant difference between 1967 and today's BS. Primarily, police were not being injured, except for one, my BIL, and his injury was not from a confrontation with rioters/looters. We did hear some interesting stories, from the police perspective, about the riots.
At the age of 81, he passed away this spring after a 13 year battle with cancer. RIP bro.
