I believe the Confederate flag has it's basis in the same thought pattern as the revolutionary flag, "Don't tread on me". Most southerners that fought in the war between the states did not own slaves. However they did not like the north interfering in what they felt were their basic rights telling them how to run their lives.
Going back in history a few years, the north wanted cheap cotton and tobacco. The north wanted it cheap but was not looking past the end of their nose as to how it was supposed to happen.
Fast forward a few years and now tearing down the past just seems to be a true case of those who forget the past will repeat it. I suppose those who oppose the Confederate flag are in support of "Big Brother".
You might now think I am in support of "White Supremacy".
The interesting part on that is I read a story awhile back saying the white people entering the work force are in decline. I don't see any "White Supremacy" . I see a declination in numbers such as is now in Germany where the German language is also in decline.
