Responses to the previous discussion the question as to whether a lust for power was sufficient motivation for submitting the anon op ed. A good question. Thinking about it, perhaps the underlying motivation was not primarily selfish as I suggested.
Mike Pense has deep religious convictions and a high standard of morality. He will not so much as have lunch alone with a woman who is not his wife. Consider his thoughts as further allegations, seemingly backed up by tape recordings of the President's involvement with porn stars and women not his own wife emerge. Adding to that, his consideration that there are actions that his boss attempts to take that Mike considers harmful, the move to give some added push for removal may represent his view of an act of duty to the country on his part.
At a time when the control of congress may fall to the other side and probable GOP recriminations will blame the President for the loss, the insider testimony provides the opportunity to right the ship while carrying on with the goals of the party.
The fact that such action would place Mike in the White House, and avoid a future of obscurity, just sweetens the pie. As Rudy G. would say "it all just adds up-doesn't it!".
