Several folks I know are caring for their sick or elderly relatives.
We have discovered that doctors are willing to give large discounts for cash payments at the time of a visit. Here is the amazing thing. The cash payments are less then the copay we would have to pay with the insurance company!!!
Insurance companies are beating up the doctors so badly with their "negotiated" payments and the expense of filing claims, many doctors are willing to take cash.
So the next time you go to a specialist with a large co-pay ask them if they take cash payments for the entire visit. You might be surprised.
I was rear-ended on rt95 several years ago and spent a lot of time with a back doctor. That doctor charged $80 per visit cash money (or check) and was the best doctor I ever saw. All the insurance in the world does not buy good care. Perhaps some of this insurance black hole will be resolved with good common sense from the doctors.
I think that our government should stop paying billions to the insurance companies as subsidies, and simply guarantee the working man a loan if he gets sick.
