I believe that the reason the Hospitals want to charge you $2600 for a shot IS the insurance companies. Have you ever looked at your insurance benefits claim sheet that they send you. It lists the amount billed, the amount the insurance pays and the amount the hospital or doctor writes off... "adjustment". The hospitals charge 10 times what they would because they know that the insurance companies will usually pay a whole lot less. And they know that medicare will do the same. The result of this is that you get charged ridiculous fees and rates, but the doctors or hospitals never see it. The only entity guaranteed to make a huge profit is the Insurance Company and they are simply the middle-man driving the costs up with their profit margins.
