They need to come up with a universal battery swap.
I know if I drove an electric car, I would fab up some backup batteries that I could plug in to extend range.
Not that hard to calculate.
They should have a standard battery module that just plugs into a rack in or under the trunk.
You could swap out 1,2,3,4... up to 8 or more modules depending on how far you are going. The automated station would have a rack island like gas pumps but just a rack you snap the batteries on to.
The battery modules have charge indicator lights so when one is green you swipe your card in front of it and the latch releases and charges you the price of the day.
