Thanks Steve, I forgot to mention about using deep cycle for slow discharge applications. I particularly like AGM batteries. I use a 100 AH in the barn for lights and a fence charger with a solar charge system. They are safer than flooded cells and will tolerate a wider temperature range. They are a bit pricey though. Most batteries do not like discharging below a minimum voltage. For 12 volt a voltage below 11 volts will diminish the capacity and eventually kill the battery. My solar charge controller will shut off the load when the voltage reaches 11.5.
