I did a bit of research and see that golf carts are wired in series. Using unequal batteries in series is not a good idea. If the lower capacity battery depletes first, then the larger capacity battery will be forced to charge it, but in reverse. this would damage the lower capacity battery and possibly cause it to boil over or worse vent large quantities of hydrogen. When replacing 6 volt or 12 volt batteries in series or parallel, they should be the same age and capacity. They should also be charged individually and measured to see that the voltages are close before installing.
