The great “King of Surf” music Dick Dale has died at age 81. Dick was a left-handed player using mostly Fender guitars in his career as he had inspired Fender to manufacture left handed guitars. Dick practically invented reverb and some of his first recordings he would play in a big pipe getting that special ‘echo-like’ effect until the spring reverb unit was invented and added to amps. Dick invented the California Surf Music sound which inspired others like The Ventures, The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, and others. Rest In Peace Dick, you were one of the greats.
