Whatever you connect, you have to disconnect from the utility company. One friend has a gas powered welder that he uses as a generator when needed. He manually disconnects from DTE (our elect supplier) and goes to his barn and backfeeds to the house.

Another friend has a PTO driven generator. He goes to a field box to disconnect from DTE and then starts his tractor PTO generator.
