It started in the early 90's. You may not like to hear it but.... manufacturing switched to the metric system around then. Some parts earlier but overall, all manufacturing switched to metric. A 4.6 liter Ford modular engine, or any engine built today, when worn smack out is still tighter on clearances than an old 302 ci was brand new. I personally don't consider 150k low mileage but with good maintenance 300k is not that uncommon anymore. For the record, I am more against the aluminum that today's truck are going to. I have vowed that my 2013 F350 4 door 8 foot bed 4x4 truck will be my last. When it finally needs an engine or a trans etc I will put in a reman and keep it going.
