That lower hose should have a spring inside it to keep it from collapsing.
I found a spring and shoved it into my upper hose as well. Stay away from coolant that is a buck or two cheaper. Get the good stuff. As for the rad, I am surprised your not running at least a 2 row with A/C.
Bigger is usually always better.
