This reminds me of a hydrocarbon emission study required by the EPA on the Chevy Chevette back in the day. Yes. It seems vehicles are only suppose to emit a certain amount of emissions while not being driven. It was found the plastic loving Chevette was making too much stink just sitting there so it was decided the center sections of the seats would be removed and a fabric section sewn in to reduce emissions to an acceptable level.
A few years later I was looking at a Jeep(?) air cleaner and noticed it had a flap inside the air cleaner at the inside that would shut off vapors from the carb while not running. No, I am not talking about the THERMAC with the hot air tube typically found on most every car made.
